How to get better at the things you care about
A client of mine (you know who you are 😊) has just started a new job – and is in the throws of the exciting stressful time of finding her feet. It reminded me of Eduardo’s talk which covers the difference between the Learning and the Performance zones. It also explains so clearly why we feel stressed when we are doing a new task or job, when expectations for professionalism or expertise are high. The table below is a good summary of the key features of these two zones.
Understanding what zone one is in, or expected to be in, can go a long way towards curbing that anxiety and freeing you to do what you need to do. Eduardo encourages us to consider “What would happen if, instead of just learning or performing, we also focus on exploring, asking, listening, experimenting, reflecting, striving and becoming?” So here’s to becoming.
