The vagus nerve is the longest cranial nerve in the body. It comes from the Latin word, vagus, for “wandering.” That’s because it wanders throughout your body, with wide distribution connecting the brainstem to the body. The vagus nerve is a critical part of our parasympathetic nervous system.
In addition to controlling things like our heart rate, digestive tract, lung function, our ability to swallow, and even bladder control, it also affects our mental health. Stimulating it has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and even PTSD symptoms.
I love Kati’s YouTube channel. I hope you enjoy this practical video where she teaches how to stimulate the vagus nerve.
