School-Leaver
At the age of 17 or 18, very few people have it all figured out in terms of what to study or which career path to follow. Take pride in engaging in a process that will help you to decide where your step out of school will take you. It will get you to think holistically about yourself and learn about the opportunities and options around you.
To learn more about career options you must also search online, read about different careers, and ask people around you. The idea is to find a good fit between your personality and your work environment – considering your values, interest, skills etc. Don’t study something because your parents insist you do or you want to copy friends’ choices.
Take some time to get to know yourself and the world around you – start this process as early as possible to avoid the pressure mounting as you near the end of Grade 12. This is a very exciting time of life – as one era ends and another begins. Make sure you have done your homework to ensure you take the best step forward.
